The verdict? Guilty. We are slaves to sin. We cannot free ourselves. We cannot save ourselves! But God doesn’t want us to dwell in this truth for too long, because it only leads to despair.
It’s the truth about Jesus that matters.
Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, came to dwell among us. He lived a sinless life, suffered and died on The Cross to pay the penalty for our sins. He rose to life, and is at the right hand of God. Someday, He will come again.
Jesus can mean two very different things to us.
When we dwell in the truth of our sinfulness, He is a curse. A standard to which we cannot measure up, that leaves us hopeless. A reminder of how we have failed, that leaves us condemned.
But when we dwell in the truth about wonderful, beautiful Jesus, we are blessed. He is a light that shines in our darkness and gives us hope. He is a bridge spanning the gap between us and God, bringing us into that glorious Presence once again.
For Jesus, we face the truth about our sin. In Jesus, this truth sets us free.
