Into Obscurity (blog)

It feels a bit strange, after the holidays, to be back in the normal routine and celebrating something as important as Epiphany.  Life's been so busy since Christmas that, except for Sundays, I almost forget what season we are in.It's Epiphany!  We celebrate how our Lord Jesus Christ was and is revealed as the Son of God, the Savior of the world!Remember in Advent, there were little epiphanies, like the angel visiting Zechariah, Mary and Joseph, and the angel choir in the sky over the shepherds, and the words of praise and prophecy from Simeon and Anna.  But this is the big one, the one that shows clearly how Jesus came to save the whole world.  Wise men, bearing expensive gifts, travelled from far lands to bow before the King! They followed a star and a prophecy to kneel before a baby of ordinary parents in an obscure little town.  Imagine finding Jesus, The King of kings, out there in obscurity.  It boggles the mind - insults it even. But what we are really remembering in this season of Epiphany is that this King came down from heaven and went out into obscurity - God in the flesh - to save you and me from sin.  He suffered and died and rose again to life, all for us.He became a 'nobody' so that you and I could be somebodies, children of God.  His epiphany touches and changes hearts here, there and everywhere. We have been baptized in Him and now Jesus lives in us, out in our ordinary lives where we both celebrate and reveal Him.
