All You Need is Love

Almost every Friday I pick up my grandchildren from school.  Markus is 5 and Olivia is 3.  It is always interesting to listen in on their conversations.  A couple of weeks ago the conversation went like this:Markus "Olivia, do you know that we are rich?"Olivia:  "We are?"Markus:  "Yep!  We have a really nice house"Olivia:  "We have a really nice house!"Markus:  "And we have lots of toys!"Olivia: " We do have lots of toys, Markus."Markus:  "But you know what makes us really rich, Olivia?"Olivia:  "What, Markus?"Markus:  " We have love!"Well, if anything could make a grandmother's heart melt, that is it!.  But I thought, it is true!  That is what makes us really rich.  It is all about love, not possessions or things.  We so easily forget that, because our culture has told us that those are the riches we should seek.  We have been brainwashed by all the advertising to believe that riches are things, and things make us happy.Remember the Beatles song, "All you need is love"?  By golly, they had it right! Two years ago I had to downsize from my 2500 square foot  home to a 950 square foot condo. And guess what? I am happy.  The size of my home and  those possessions that I had to divest myself of were not the most important things in my life.  I truly have all I need.  And love?  Well, not only do I have the love of my children and their families, the love of friends, the love of my church community, but I have God's love.  It doesn't get any better than that.Yep,  my grandson is right.  What really makes us rich is Love....the Love that came down at Christmas....the Love that died on the cross for me... and for you. That Love is  what we should seek to be truly rich.
