Telling Them (blog)
Just before school started up again, I was talking with one of our teenage members about her schedule and teachers. We discovered that she would have the same math teacher this year that taught my older daughter a couple of years ago."Oh, he is so great!" I assured her. "He's the best teacher. He'll walk you through it all, no worries. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well."What I wanted so much to communicate to her was that this teacher was on her side and that he intended good for her even before she stepped a foot in the classroom. I was so eager and happy to give her this good news! And she seemed relieved to hear it.Isn't telling others about our Savior Jesus Christ just like that?Evangelism can seem frightening and overwhelming but it's really meant to be a joy. We are, after all, sharing a Gospel of grace..."The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love...He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103)Wouldn't you just love to tell a new fellow employee about how understanding, caring and forgiving your boss is? 'She's great,' you would say, 'she'll be on your side, you'll see." When you've got a really great boss, you broadcast it to anyone who will listen. We've got the best 'boss' and 'teacher' around! He is the Almighty God, the creator and sustainer of all things. He came down to earth, in the person of Jesus, to be by our sides before we ever stepped foot here. He cares so much for us that He did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He took the burden of our sins upon Himself, took the punishment for them. In dying for us He defeated death and gave us the promise of eternal life! All we need to do is believe in Him. He gives us His Spirit to teach us and guide us all the days of our lives.God is for us! Who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)Isn't this great news to share with everyone around you - with the scared and lonely, with the sick and suffering, with the jobless, with the discouraged and depressed, with the lost and with everyone new to the faith?
