The Family Conversations will pause for the time between Pastor Trinklein’s leaving and the arrival of a new pastor/commissioned minister/deacon. Over the past 11 months the Family Conversations on Racial Justice have brought positive learning and understanding regarding the hurts, misunderstandings, and presence of racism against people of color. There have been difficult and challenging conversations, which is understandable due to the sensitive topics presented and discussed. However, at times strong emotions have been stirred up to the point that pastoral guidance and follow up with individuals were necessary so the Family Conversations endeavor could continue to be a safe place for all to share openly. The pastoral guidance and involvement were vital for the health and efficacy of the Family Conversations while leading us on a journey to expose racism and change attitudes and behaviors. In light of SHLC entering a period of time between pastors, the Council affirmed that it is wise to pause the Family Conversations until the arrival of the next called shepherd to SHLC who then can consider restarting the Family Conversations.
Thank you to the planning team who launched Family Conversations with a commitment to bringing down barriers and building bridges of understanding and unity for racial justice. Our SHLC website will be providing links to resources on Racial Justice issues for your continuing personal growth. In these days of racial division and strife, let the love of Jesus be expressed through you individually and through us as a church to bring acceptance, healing and hope to our community, nation and world.
